The sequence
- Work out which member state is responsible for your application, which is your main destination or your first entry point
- Read that consulate's own document list, not a general Schengen guide
- Assemble originals - passport, financial proof, accommodation, travel insurance, employment or study evidence
- Attest or apostille where that consulate requires it
- Translate only what that consulate requires, in the form it specifies
- Book the appointment early, since availability rather than paperwork is often the constraint
“Schengen” is not a destination
The visa is common. The document rules are not.
Requirements are set by the member state processing your application, and on translation those states differ sharply:

No Pakistani translator is on any of those registers. Where your responsible consulate is one of these and requires a sworn translation, ours will not be accepted, however well done.
Other member states accept a certified translation with a statement of accuracy, which we can provide.
So the first task is not translation. It is working out whose rules apply.
Which consulate has your file
Generally:
- The member state that is your main destination, judged by length of stay or the main purpose of travel
- Where you are visiting several countries roughly equally, the country of first entry
Establish this before preparing anything. Applicants who prepare documents to a general “Schengen checklist” and then discover their file sits with Germany have prepared to the wrong standard.
Then read that consulate’s own document list, not a general guide — including this one.
Short stay or long stay? Not the same thing
Worth separating, because the requirements differ substantially.
Schengen visa — short stay, generally up to 90 days. Tourism, family visits, business trips. Lighter document and authentication requirements.
National visa — long stay, issued under that country’s own law for work or study. Much heavier requirements, including attestation and frequently a sworn translation.

What you probably do not need translated
The documents Pakistani applicants most often pay to translate unnecessarily:
- Bank statements — commonly issued in English already
- Degrees and transcripts — most Pakistani universities issue in English
- Employment letters from larger employers — usually English
- Travel insurance — issued in English
Send photographs before ordering. If your documents are already in English, you need attested copies at most, and we will say so.
What genuinely tends to need translating: Nikah Nama, NADRA birth certificates where not bilingual, older Urdu board certificates, and property or land documents used as financial proof.
Apostille or attestation
Most Schengen states are parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, so where authentication is required an apostille may replace the embassy attestation route rather than adding to it.

Note too that short-stay visitor visas often need less authentication than long-stay national visas. Confirm which applies rather than over-preparing.
What we can and cannot do
Can: certified translation into Italian, German, French, Spanish, Polish, Dutch, and Portuguese, where the consulate accepts a certified translation.
Cannot: be a sworn translator in any member state’s register, or make a consulate accept something it has decided not to accept.

Are my bank statements in English acceptable?
Pakistani bank statements are commonly issued in English, in which case no translation is needed. The same applies to most degrees. Send photographs before ordering, because the documents Pakistani applicants most often pay to translate unnecessarily are exactly these.
