Talaq Nama and Divorce Deed Translation
Almost everyone who asks for a Talaq Nama translation is doing it for a second marriage or a spouse visa, which means someone official will read it closely. The recurring problem is that the Talaq Nama alone is often not the document being asked for.
What is a talaq nama?
A Talaq Nama is the Pakistani divorce deed. Translation for visa and remarriage purposes usually also needs the union council divorce certificate issued after the statutory notice period, since that is the document most authorities treat as proof the divorce is effective. Translation starts from Rs. 3,000, and attestation goes on the original first.
- Starting price
- Rs. 3,000
- Turnaround
- Standard delivery at the normal rate. 24-hour at 1.5x to 2x if you have an appointment.
- Issued by
- Nikah registrar or union council, with the union council divorce certificate issued after the statutory notice period
Fields that must match your passport
A mismatch here is the commonest avoidable rejection.
- Both parties' full names, matched to passport or CNIC
- Father's name, waldiyat, for both parties
- Witness names where the checklist requires them
- Place names and union council district
Who usually asks for it
- Embassies assessing a spouse or family visa
- Nikah registrars for a subsequent marriage
- Courts and family law proceedings
Why this document gets rejected
- Submitting the Talaq Nama without the union council divorce certificate, which is what proves the divorce took effect
- A name spelled differently on the Talaq Nama than on the passport, so the officer cannot confirm the parties are the same people
Where attestation sits
Attest the original first, then translate. The union council or issuing authority endorsement, then MOFA, then the destination embassy where required. A translation made before those stamps will not show them.
Read the attestation sequenceThe document people forget
This is the single most useful thing on this page.
A Talaq Nama records the pronouncement of divorce. But Pakistani law provides for a notice period, after which the union council issues a divorce certificate confirming the divorce has taken effect.
Most embassies, and most nikah registrars considering a subsequent marriage, treat that certificate as the proof — not the Talaq Nama alone.
Applicants routinely translate the Talaq Nama, submit it, and are asked for the certificate they did not know existed. If you hold both, send both. If you hold only the Talaq Nama, ask the receiving authority whether it is sufficient before paying for a translation.
Why anyone reads this document closely
Two situations, and both involve scrutiny:
A spouse or family visa. The authority is establishing that the current marriage is valid, which means establishing that any previous marriage ended properly. A gap or inconsistency in that chain gets a file questioned.
A subsequent marriage in Pakistan. A nikah registrar needs to see that the previous marriage is legally concluded.
In both cases the document is being cross-checked against others — the current Nikah Nama, both parties’ CNICs, passports. Which brings us to the thing that actually causes rejections.
Names have to match across the whole set
The fields where a mismatch costs you:
- Both parties’ full names, matched to the passport or CNIC being submitted
- Father’s name (waldiyat) for both parties, which is checked more often than people expect
- Witness names, where your checklist requires them
- Place names and the union council district
An officer comparing your translated Talaq Nama against your passport cannot confirm they refer to the same person if the spellings differ. Send passport and CNIC copies with the job, and send the Talaq Nama, the union council certificate, and the current Nikah Nama together so one spelling is applied throughout.
Documents translated one at a time over several weeks drift. That drift is what a reviewing officer notices first.
We translate it completely
Clients sometimes ask us to soften the grounds, or omit the dower settlement, or leave out a clause that feels private.
We do not. An incomplete translation of a legal instrument is worse than a complete one — the omission is visible to anyone familiar with the form, and it invites exactly the question you were trying to avoid.
Everything you send is handled confidentially, and source documents are deleted within 30 days of completion unless you ask us to keep them. See our privacy policy.
Attestation first, translation after
{/* stated in the frontmatter and repeated here because it is the single most expensive sequencing error */}
The issuing authority endorsement, then MOFA, then the destination embassy where required — then the translation.
Attestation stamps go on the original. A translation prepared beforehand cannot show them, and the officer comparing the two will see endorsements on one side and not the other.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Talaq Nama enough on its own?
Frequently not, and this is the most common problem on this document. A Talaq Nama records the pronouncement, but Pakistani law provides for a notice period after which the union council issues a divorce certificate. Most embassies and nikah registrars treat that certificate as the proof the divorce is effective. Send both if you hold them, and if you only hold the Talaq Nama, ask the receiving authority whether it is sufficient before ordering.
Why does a spouse visa need my previous divorce documents?
Because the receiving authority is confirming that the current marriage is valid, which requires establishing that any previous marriage ended. A gap or inconsistency in that chain is a routine cause of a spouse visa file being questioned. Send the Talaq Nama, the union council certificate, and the current Nikah Nama together so names and dates are made consistent across all three.
How do you handle the sensitive contents?
The same way as any other document, which means completely and without editorial judgement. Clients sometimes ask us to soften or omit the grounds or the dower settlement. We do not, because an incomplete translation of a legal instrument is worse than a complete one, and the omission is visible to anyone who knows the form. Everything you send is handled confidentially.
My Talaq Nama is old and handwritten. Can it still be translated?
Usually, but send photographs before ordering. Older deeds are frequently faded, annotated, and written in legal Urdu that takes real effort to read. Where an entry genuinely cannot be read we mark it illegible rather than guessing, because a guessed date on a divorce deed changes what the document proves.
Do I need certification or notarization?
Depends on the receiving authority. Most embassy and nikah registrar submissions want a certified translation with a statement of accuracy. Some court filings want notarization on top. Read the wording you were given and send it to us, because ordering the wrong one means starting again.
What does Talaq Nama translation cost?
From Rs. 3,000, the same rate as other marriage and legal documents. Legibility is the main variable rather than page count. If you are translating the union council certificate and the current Nikah Nama in the same file, send them together and we will quote the set.
