English to Japanese Translation

Three scripts, one sentence

Japanese writes kanji, hiragana, and katakana together in the same text, each doing a different job. That is not a stylistic choice a translator makes; it is how the language works.

For document translation the practical consequence is that output cannot be produced or checked quickly by someone who does not read Japanese. There is no way to eyeball it for plausibility the way you might with a Latin-script language.

Your name goes into katakana, and it sticks

Katakana is the script used for foreign words and names, and your name is rendered phonetically into it.

There is usually more than one defensible rendering of a Pakistani name in katakana. Which means, as with Cyrillic and Hangul, consistency beats correctness — and the first official document carrying your katakana name effectively fixes it for everything after: residence card, enrolment records, bank account, employment records.

If you already hold a Japanese document with your name in katakana — a prior visa, a residence card, an admission letter — send it with the job. We match it. Starting a second version creates a discrepancy someone will ask about later.

No sworn register, so read your checklist

Japan has no court-appointed sworn translator register. There is no equivalent of Italy’s traduzione giurata to be excluded from, which means a certified translation with a statement of accuracy is frequently acceptable.

But requirements are set by the receiving body — a university, an employer, the immigration bureau — and they differ. The exact wording you were given decides it. Send it to us.

Specified Skilled Worker, and what it actually needs

The Specified Skilled Worker route is a Japanese work visa category with sector-specific skills tests and language requirements.

Much of it turns on the tests and on employer sponsorship rather than on translated personal documents. Before ordering a set of Japanese translations, ask your employer or agent what they actually require. We would rather answer that question than fill a speculative order.

Apostille or attestation

Japan is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille may replace the embassy attestation route rather than adding to it — they are alternatives.

How we handle this pair

Japanese runs through a vetted collaborator, not in house, at Rs. 3,000 and up. Mixed-script output takes longer to produce and check than a Latin-script language, and turnaround depends partly on the collaborator.

Urdu documents are routed through English rather than directly into Japanese.
