Who this pair is for

Pashto is the first language of much of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and our Abbottabad office sits in a region where a good deal of business, employment, and community life runs in it.

This is a reader-facing pair. It is used where someone needs to understand a document, not where an authority needs to assess one:

The script detail that gives cheap work away

Pashto is written in a Perso-Arabic script, right to left, related to Urdu and Arabic without being either.

Pashto has additional letters for sounds that do not exist in Urdu or Arabic — retroflex consonants among them. A translator or a typesetter who substitutes the nearest Urdu or Arabic letter produces text that a Pashto reader spots instantly as wrong, in the same way a missing diacritic is obvious to a native reader.

This matters more than it sounds for document work. If the point of the translation is that someone can read and rely on it, letters approximated from another alphabet undermine exactly that.

Pakistani and Afghan Pashto

The same language, with genuine differences in vocabulary and some spelling conventions between Pakistani and Afghan usage — a consequence of decades of separate administrative and educational systems.

For most document work this is a matter of keeping the register neutral. Where a document is going to an Afghan authority or an Afghan reader specifically, tell us, and confirm with the receiving party which variety they expect. We would rather ask than assume.

Pashto runs through a vetted collaborator, not in house. Arabic, English, and Urdu are our own desks; Pashto is not.

That means the rate is higher, from Rs. 2,500, and the turnaround depends partly on the collaborator’s availability. Ask before you plan around urgent delivery.

The document discipline is unchanged — names transliterated to match the identity document you are submitting, layout rebuilt for right-to-left, stamps described in position, illegible entries marked rather than guessed.
