English to Hindi Translation

The script gap, which is the whole pair

Spoken Hindi and Urdu are close. A Pakistani speaker follows a Hindi film without subtitles; the everyday registers are substantially the same language.

Written, they share almost nothing. Hindi uses Devanagari, left to right. Urdu uses Nastaliq, right to left. Literacy in one gives you no access whatsoever to the other.

That gap is what this pair exists to bridge, and it is why a Hindi document is genuinely unreadable to most Pakistani readers despite the spoken closeness.

And formal registers diverge sharply

The resemblance holds in conversation and breaks down in documents.

Formal Hindi draws its vocabulary from Sanskrit. Formal Urdu draws from Persian and Arabic. The more formal the text — legal, administrative, technical — the further apart they get. Two documents on the same subject can share very little vocabulary.

Which means the common shortcut of transliterating Urdu into Devanagari does not produce Hindi. It produces text a Hindi reader finds by turns odd, stilted, and in places unintelligible. If someone offers you that, it is not translation.

What this pair is honestly for

Not official submissions. Indian official channels from Pakistan are limited and follow their own restricted routes, and no other authority wants Hindi from a Pakistani applicant. If you have been told a visa file needs Hindi, check that again before paying — what you need is almost certainly English, which means Urdu to English translation.

Commercial and reader-facing work, which is where it genuinely applies:

• Business and commercial documents for Indian customers or distributors
• Media, subtitling, and web content aimed at Hindi readers
• Product and technical documentation
• Training and instructional material
• Correspondence and marketing material

This is a commercial pair rather than a documents pair, and we treat it that way.

Translation or localisation?

For marketing and media the distinction matters and it changes the price. Translating a product page and making it persuade a Hindi-speaking customer are different exercises.
